FAQs

Can a hole in the eardrum heal on its own?

Small perforations caused by sudden injury may heal with proper medication and strict water protection (keeping the ear dry). However, larger holes or those caused by chronic infections (CSOM) usually require Tympanoplasty. Without surgery, these holes can lead to permanent hearing loss and recurring infections.

While nerve-related hearing loss (Presbycusis) cannot be cured with medicine or surgery, it is highly manageable. Modern digital hearing aids and assistive devices allow patients to regain their quality of life and stay connected with their families.

This is a classic symptom of BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo), caused by displaced calcium crystals in the inner ear. Dr. Raina Rathore specializes in the Epley Maneuver, a non-surgical bedside procedure that can provide immediate relief by repositioning these crystals.

Most ear surgeries, like Tympanoplasty, are minimally invasive. Patients are usually discharged the same day or the next morning. While you can resume light activities within 3–5 days, you must avoid air travel and heavy lifting for about 4 weeks to ensure the delicate graft heals perfectly.

In children, signs include not responding to loud sounds, delayed speech development, or turning up the TV volume. If you notice these signs, a Pediatric ENT evaluation and a formal hearing test (Audiometry/BERA) are recommended immediately.
